Time to take profits? What about cash drag which prevents participation in a further market rise?

Year-to-date, the S&P 500 has risen nearly 25%. (See chart above.)

If you have not done so already, possibly more than once this year, it is an excellent time to take profits in line with your asset allocation.

What are the downsides of taking profits? Doesn’t holding a lot of cash prevent investors from participating in further market rises?
