We are experiencing the worst economic setbacks in history; the stock market is is hitting the highest levels in history. Surprising? After all, the stock market represents the value of the shares of the listed companies which are experiencing that economic setback.

Isn’t there a correlation?

If there is, it is a very tenuous one and always has been.

Currently, without a means test, North American governments are giving individuals and small businesses trillions of dollars in assistance to see them through the COVID-19 economic traumas. Many who do not need that money are putting it into the stock market, the best place for that money, given the lowest interest rates in history.
